What is Thigh Lift Surgery?
In your initial consultation, Dr. Takowsky will assess your unique body composition to come up with treatment techniques for your thigh lift surgery. We will use different incision patterns, depending on the targeted thigh area for your treatment, your body composition, and your cosmetic goals. For instance, if you need excess skin and fat moved from the inner thigh versus the outer thigh.
Inner Thigh Lift
During an inner thigh lift, an incision will be made around your groin area. Then, any excess fat and skin will be removed. Oftentimes, people get a thigh lift in conjunction with liposuction to further remove fat from targeted areas.
Lastly, the areas of the inner thigh from the groin down to your knee will be contoured by removing loose skin and smoothing your skin over the thigh muscle. For inner and outer thigh lifts, deep support sutures are used to hold the new contour in place, then sutures are used to close the incision.
Outer Thigh Lift
During an outer thigh lift procedure, the incision will be strategically placed, so they’re hidden by most clothing and swimsuit types. Typically, incisions for outer thigh lifts will be made around the natural curve of the thigh and hip.
Outer thigh lifts are usually more complex, and they often involve recontouring of the buttocks. With outer thigh lifts, it is easier to maintain the same weight and positive effects of the surgery, because skin will be less elastic after the surgery.
Recovery from Thigh Lift Surgery
After your surgery, you will need to take some time for a healthy recovery. For the first couple of weeks after your surgery, the incision areas will be wrapped in bandages or dressing. You also might be dressed in a compression garment to reduce swelling and promote healing. Typically, small tubes will be places around the wound to stop the retention of fluid and blood.
Dr. Takowsky will also give you recovery instructions, so you can be better prepared to take care of your wounds and prevent complications. For optimal healing, it is imperative that you do not apply aggressive force or excessive motion to your incision area.
The most important time of your healing process will be the first two weeks, when you should move slowly and carefully to avoid pulling on your incisions. Down time after a thigh lift surgery is usually between 3 to 4 weeks, and about 6 weeks for full healing. With that said, you should plan to take about a month off of work, or longer, if your job is labor intensive.
